Solar Generation Estimation Tool

The solar generation tool is designed to help you generate needed solar generation data to run the Techno-economic tool. Using you zip code we utilize a database of satellite solar irradiance data to determine the PV generation at your location. You can download the results and use it for the techno-economic analysis. Note that the resulting file is in UTC time.

The estimated solar generation uses the following process:

  1. The pvlib toolbox is used to generate a solar PV system with your inputs.
    • Solar farm with panel DC potential as input.
    • Inverters are sized based on the DC/AC ratio.
    • Total system efficiency as input.
    • Panels are fixed, south facing, with a tilt angle input.
  2. The PVGIS-ERA5 satellite dataset is used for irradiance data in your location based on zipcode.
  3. A simulation is ran over the number of years you select.
  4. Resulting time-series data in UTC can be downloaded.
